My current top podcast app feature request is a playout compressor.
Good podcasts are recorded in a quiet studio, as they should be. But it seems that many podcasters also assume that people will listen in one, and they master the show with dozens of dB of dynamic range. In a noisy environment (eg: a car on the freeway), the soft parts are lost in the noise floor, and the user has to turn the volume way up to hear it - enough to make the loud parts distort.
Ironically, it seems the higher the show's audio quality, the harder it is to listen to in today's noisy listening environments.
