The rye grass is the only crop in the green manure mix I use that won’t winter kill and I’ll remove that with a ho-mi hand tool in spring a month before planting the beds. Rye grass is brilliant for my soil over winter.
Adding any mulch will be good for your soil. If winter wheat is too much of a pain to remove, don’t use it.
