Of course Marx was not actually an atheist. In his private poetry, he discusses at length how he made a deal with Satan to wage war against existence, about the destruction he would author, all the while marching along his path to the Abyss. Hegelianism was merely his tool. Marx was extremely smart. He knew that he waged war with ***existence*** itself (and the diversity therein, and the diversity of individuals therein), not with any oppression as people normally define it.
