Perhaps instead of the robot being pregnant it's a surrogacy thing? Like a fetus from a girl who would not survive pregnancy, or a sick fetus that needs medical attention. Machines have purpose to exist irl and there's usually a rational reason for anything to exist. Especially something that would require so much engineering. I wouldn't recommend going into all of that rationalization in the story itself b-
