quotingI only got my first bitaxe miner a couple of weeks ago. While I'm still testing the waters with a measly 700 GH/s, I'm interested to grow a bit. I'm not sure I'll ever hit a PH/s, but seems to me there is a doable trek. Also, energy prices where I live are relatively low.

I have three questions:
- at what point it's reasonable to switch from pool mining to solo? Currently with viaBTC, I don't like it, but, again, I'm testing the waters.
- which leads to my second question, what would be a good strategy to pick a pool?
- how do I calculate at what hashrate I should expect a return? Given I know exactly how much energy I'm spending.
I'm thinking out loud here: My end goal is one of two, I have yet to decide:
Either make a profit, or help defending the network; or both. It will depend on how fast I ramp up my hash rate, I guess. Perhaps, break even then solo? Thoughts?
