hmm interesting. our compost heap is definitely a chicken magnet. The chickens mostly don't dig all the way down but just move the top layer around.
The difference could be that
a) we use kitchen scraps on the compost, not only garden waste. That's extremely attractive to our chickens, especially if it's not just vegetables but fruit.
b) our whole area is much smaller than yours and the compost is one of the best places to catch protein snacks (bugs, worms)
