I think when you say antenna patterns you mean the Polar Pattern which on most microphones is called Cardioid. All it's telling you is that the microphone picks up the most sound from the front and the more you get off axis the less sound it picks up. For example if you talk into the back of that microphone it'll be much quieter than the front.
