Transphobia depends on keeping trans people in an othered, inferior category that can be legally suppressed.
This is why some talk up "third gender" groups in other cultures as superior to "Western trans people" despite members of those groups being similarly oppressed -- and often worse.
The first rule of transphobia is we are not allowed to be equal to "real" men and women.
"Trans men are men, trans women are women" is threatening because it tears down those artificial distinctions.
