does anyone actually know what he is thinking? IMO he is trying to avoid politics becoming simply about the EU again when there are serious structural issues to be sorted within the UK. #brexit is a cause celebre for a lot of people in the UK, but direct rapprochement with the EU will just kick off another media culture war and that is all we will be talking about for 5 years.
plus people in the EU have simply moved on. it is not a topic, unlike here where my feed is full of posts like yours wanting a much closer relationship or "rejoin". not criticising the thought, or the motivation, but the EU and europeans really don't care that much.
i'd prefer that labour get on with fixing the UK first. my cause celebre would be "get the 30% of the UK population living in poverty in the UK actually out of poverty."
