Ego. People don't want to look up to their friends, they want to be their equal. When you do better than them, it makes them feel bad. when you tell them something it makes you the authority and makes them feel inferior. it sucks that it's that way, but that's the way it is and it's understandable. It's probably made worse by everyone being a passive consumer, dependent on authority, not knowing what it takes to figure something out.
