There is also the issue of people joining being encouraged to follow large numbers to begin with. To fill their feed. Which in reality fill their feed with mostly rubbish and makes them miss things they have an actual interest in. Also potentially accidentally developing hate follows lol).
But yeah, you do need some followers on social media. If you had no interactions at all, or just some polite read receipts from people following you randomly or for follow4follow, you may as well just write a diary with pen and paper.
