I would say that 150k is very conservative to start with. Insurance premiums have more than trippled over the past 2 years and caused mortgages to increase. If two children are in private schools, that's an annual 50k easy. There are so many variables to come out with an average. Not one family is the same economically. Some have 2 and 3 vehicles with notes and high insurance. Some parents work 2 jobs.
