Today, I read two #reflections, one from Epictetus and one from Marcus Aurelius. The former speaks about how everything we use amd interact in life with—our spouse, our children—are merely borrowed, and in one way or another, we will return them. Our only duty is to care for them, no matter how the giver of life reclaims them. The latter talks about how even great heroes of the past eventually become forgotten, their stories fading into fables and then disappearing entirely. If these admired figures are forgotten over time, we ordinary people will be forgotten even sooner.

What I’ve come to understand are some interesting principles that bring peace:

1. Don’t view life as if it will never end.
2. Don’t seek admiration; act consciously and understand that everything we touch, see, think, and feel has an end.
3. Nothing truly belongs to us except our thoughts, and only when we care for them.
