I agree, I think it's stupid in general to put jpegs on the blockchain. That said, I think the fee incentives will drive more efficient behavior, similar to how it did with Satoshi Dice and exchanges not batching. It gets expensive for a bit, then people change what they're doing to reflect the economic reality of the system.
