Here comes what is probably a pretty hot take.

I have never been for loose roaming animals ever since I began working in a shelter, maybe even a bit before. I found it to be an unnecessary danger to the animal so owners can be lazy and neglect their mental and physical stimulation.

But now as I have been home for 2 hours today watching 3 roaming dogs and numerous cats pass through my yard, I'm now realizing I'm going to be the danger to these outdoor pets.

I plan on having a working farm. I can't have dogs chasing my ewes and causing miscarriages or attacking my lambs. I can't have cats preying on my quail or getting toxoplasmosis on my tomatoes. It could be an entire season of wasted time and money, all because a lazy owner didn't want to take care of their animal.

So I'm at a very difficult crossroads here. Being that there is no animal shelter or animal control, and this state's really dumb laws on pets as property, my choices are to find and talk to the owners and hope they keep their animals contained on their property, and/or shoot to kill. And that is not an option I want to do. Especially cats as they are hard to follow home and find an owner.

This is a PSA to keep your animals contained.
