I'd argue that the problem isn't outsourcing itself but that it has been so badly managed.

If the management of the process is rushed and dictated by lowest price or convenience, rather than appropriate skills and experience then problems are more likely. We get an outsourced company that's a poor fit, or has a poor understanding of the client's needs.

It's the same process whether you're looking for a new service supplier at work or a new phone provider for yourself.
