here’s a core assumption about computers that I like to upset: that there’s something special about “plain text” that makes it desirable as the format for all files.

first off, there’s no such thing as “plain text”, there’s a whole list of specifications and standards for various BINARY FORMATS mutually incompatible, and we have through strife and decades of politics kind of settled on UTF-8

I assert that there is in fact nothing special about text formats…
