Hi Senator! Would there be support in Congress for a bill that delays bringing bills up for vote until enough time has passed to allow everyone to read it?
If the “omnibus bill” is around 1 million words and the average American can read at 300 words/minute, this massive spending bill would take 55 hours to read if 24 hrs/day were devoted to that.
Assuming 4 hours a day devoted to reading it, my proposal would require a delay in 14 days (55 hours / 4 hours per day) before it would be brought up for vote.
Maybe this would cut down on massive spending bills with extraneous and unnecessary earmarks…no wonder our country is in so much debt!
