They're an npub, that you turn into a Community by publishing a 10222.
This makes the community:
- have agency (can send DMs, can labell other npubs, ...)
- not rely on one relay that can (and will!) go down
- have coherent hosting that goes beyond just the relay-side (blossom server, mints, ...)
- zappable
- not be yet another new ownership-concept to teach users
- ...
