Have you read 'Finding signal in a noisy world?' I'd highly recommend it and think it would answer a lot of your questions surrounding the need for other projects. Bitcoin has solved for decentralisation and security on the base layer. Scaling will happen on layer 2. If you look at other projects, they have to sacrifice one of those three factors on the base layer, and that is what will lead to their downfall.
