Android utilizes a modified Linux kernel
The Android Open Source project, AOS, let U tweak and modify android. In the end U are basically tweaking a Linux distro.
Ubuntu are huge and there are many distros based on Ubuntu. I would not call them Ubuntu. I run Linux Mint, it is based on Ubuntu but it is not Ubuntu.
I would not define every AOS as "google" since they are open source versions of android which is based on a Linux kernel.
It's good enough for me.
