I suspect that it is only a matter of time before there we have a fully portable identities in ActivityPub linked to owned domain names. When that happens and it is implemented easily enough for the average individual to deploy, I think social networks will actually start taking off. No more of these corporate walled gardens or highly-technical solutions that end up being marginal toys.
