Similar, but badges are meant to be displayed and tend to be awarded to groups of people who have engaged in some activity.
This could just be "hey, met this Nostrich at the airport!" or "I used to follow them on X".
It just adds a data point.
I could imagine issuing one of these along with a badge, tho. Like "this person attended my Ted Talk."
Then they can choose to display the badge or just cosign the attestation, or both, or neither.
