My story is similar. In the 10 years since retiring from the music production job I loved and hated, I've kept to one glass of beer, & maybe a tongue-moistening of good liquor like Laphroaig or Slivovitz, 3 times a week at most. The headache that follows the very few times I've indulged in more warn me away from repeating that.
My failing memory is of course due to years of overindulgence, but also partially to panic over turning geezer, proven by memory returning once I relax.
