a) is realy a myth. There is no such thing as a 'self-balancing grid'. When the sun isn't shining and the wind not blowing, you need fossil to fill the blanks.

b) In the Australian context the Liberals seem somewhat of an outlier in this. This has been the plan everywhere on the planet where nuclear is considered.

But even assuming the two exclude each other, the saved carbon emissions over time, say 100 years of a lifespan of a nuclear power plant, make it worth the wait.

I don't have the numbers yet for 2024, but below graph should explain the point.
