Well, there seems to be a trend right now to make that "optimistic" argument (and I've used similar ones in my lectures earlier this year), but it seems to me the purpose is mainly to encourage people not to give up.
But in reality I'm not so sure if we can be so optimistic, as we're really running out of time fast and emissions have to go down much more quickly. It's like racing towards a wall at speed and be optimistic because we're no longer accelerating.
