Seems to me that they want sign ups for "Pro" to bolster their position for an IPO at some point. I imagine it means handing over identifiable info about yourself as part of the process.
I moved away from Ubuntu as soon as they pushed snaps hard and made it impractical to remove and disable for the average user. Seems like it was the right choice.
