I sometimes feel like I'm leaving something on the table, because photography is one of the very few visual arts where opportunism of the sort I don't pursue is even possible. There are essentially no fully spontaneous paintings or sculptures.
But for me, if I've not visited a place several times and planned what photo I'm looking for, I invariably miss stuff, have the wrong gear, and generally feel like I'm just screwing around. Might as well be setting up an easel and canvas.
