There is no end state. There is no goal. The ever-static now, unchanging always. They don't have a purpose, merely perpetually riding the tiger (I was in love with that metaphor, forgive, I was like 10 when I read it).
But they don't need to because they are never quite letting the balloon touch the ground. The goal is just an ever-eternal this.
