a lot of new writers haven't thought deeply about their craft, especially if they don't come from a background in the arts, & they haven't learned how. there is more to writing a good story than just writing words down. there are techniques to learn, commentary to make, & layers of meaning to incorporate. mastering these skills takes practice & commitment. it takes as much work as learning to master the guitar or the violin.
