I'm guessing this would be a long solved problem but for "genius" Elon and his single-mindedness. Visual self-steering is unnecessary and over-complicated for this application. A "soft" track, perhaps in the form of a coded center-stripe, and some new code would fix this. But proving the imagined "perfection" of self-driving is more important to Musk. This is like his "no flame trench" debacle at Starbase all over again.
