Helping out with maintenance and landscaping on a mostly forested lot and I find myself wondering about things that are hard to dig up online, like: if you have to move a rotting pile of ex-firewood, what can you do with it to maximize its ecosystem benefits? Literally just pile it on a bare patch of ground? Could we use it to improve the ecological value of the stream that passes through?
It'd be quite some time before we consider making any raised beds or hugel mounds.
