Periodic reminder that the awful people in history who we still inexplicably lionize were, in fact, generally criticized in their own time by their own people for their awful deeds, so even if you take a very narrow view of who counts in terms of "applying modern morality to the past" it's still bullshit.
But if you don't count the opinions of their victims as coming from their contemporaries, then you're helping to validate their crimes.
