Wow, two years into the war and #Netflix still airs #Russia film “Chernobyl 1986” which is nothing but a propaganda response to 2019 HBO “Chernobyl” series 🤦

The latter, according to what we would today call “Z-patriots”, focused too much on the systemic failures of Soviet system of command, likely because it resembled Putin’s “power vertical” too much, so they decided to make a tearjerker about liquidators of a disaster that “just happened”.

As a reminder, Soviet Union for three days outright denied any disaster, blocking evacuation of Prypyat’ residents, and called it “Western propaganda”. Then they admitted a “fire”, when one reactor building was practically blown up and burning. The impact of Chernobyl wasn’t as severe as painted today by Greenpeace & friends - less than 100 personnel died in a decade that followed, some as result of the explosion and the fire, some as result of the radiation exposure.

But if it wasn’t for the utter stupidity and inertia of the Soviet system, there would be no Chernobyl disaster at all. A few local decisions could have stopped the whole chain of events that unrolled as people made wrong decisions “because plan” and then waited for “what Moscow says”.
