I was there when it collapsed at the beginning of the century. It didn't matter for several years if the tech companies were profitable and then all of a sudden it did and everything fell apart. We all got tossed on our asses. Most of us ended up working for "brick and mortar" companies where things like web commerce, data warehousing, and customer analysis (and all the process knowledge around those things) came in-house because that expertise was suddenly on the market.
