#writerscoffeeclub 21. Do you agree with Rose Tremain, who says you shouldn't plan a book's ending; it must be earned?
the full quote is: 'In the planning stage of a book, don’t plan the ending. It has to be earned by all that will go before it.'
i think what she means is that any plans for the ending have to come after most of the story has been worked out. in which case i'd agree. but blanket advice against planning your ending sounds like a recipe for something rambling, & directionless.
