Yeah, this is an unfortunate side effect to federation...
I have also been blocked and limited by a number of instances on which I had several friends, severing relationships with no discussion from the instance admin.
It's disappointing, but unfortunately I don't see a way around it unless the instance notifies you ahead of time.😬 😔
