Look, I don’t often defend Apple. Fuck those guys.

But I have a bit of a gripe about coverage of settings magically being magically turned on after updates.

I’ve seen new features appear enabled by default following an update.

I’ve not once, in all my years, coming up on having managed the security of nearly *half a million* Apple devices over the UK, EU, US, and EEA in multiple organisations, seen a setting (such as analytics) be enabled non-consensually.

I’ve seen users *lie* about having missed prompts upon boot and selected the wrong setting.

I’ve seen misconfiguration.

I’ve also seen outlets take user stories on social media as gospel and perpetuate this myth…

But not magical config changes.
