I really like about bsky that you can use your own domain as username/handle; and (like with email) your experience shouldn't be affected by your choice of server. From a technical point of view: that client and protocol are completely separated.
Mastodon on the other hand has (unlike bsky) real decentralization (and far more content - at least for now).
Sadly, neither seems to have notifications on Android 😔
