A question for advocates of parking-protected bike lanes on Valencia...
I think when people hearing "parking" they tend to picture static cars, just sitting there in the parking space.
But much of the parking that would be doing the protecting - likely most of it on the core commercial blocks of, say, 16th through 22nd - would consist of commercial loading and unloading
- delivery trucks going to businesses during the day
- Uber and Lyft pickups and drop-offs
- Gig economy food delivery pickups in the evening
with all of that taking place across, and to a certain likely in the bike lane, or so it seems to me.
Would that work for you?
Do the collisions between bicyclists and that activity, which seem inevitable to me, lead to calls for changes, or would they be seen as the price (to bicyclists) of doing business (for Valencia businesses)?
