It's a bit sad, it just mean more centralization on Lightning and indirectly to Bitcoin.
Hopefully early issues that cost node operators money (stuck HTLC, force close, old commitement method blocking channels), better UX (reliable auto channel management, liquidity management) and new way to open/close channel in group to save on cost, will allow the node operator to grow again.
I also think that the majority of the grow will be on mobile node with unannonced channels, like with Phoenix, Zeus and Breez and this is mostly invisible but still important for adoption.
