the death toll is 23,000. It both sounds like a lot, and not a lot, dichotomous. If Texas attacked Louisiana and killed 28,000 people in louisiana, that's about the same. Texas has about 3x as many people as israel, but the death tolls are rational.
More people die in the US on roadways every year. *ten times that* die from preventable lung and cardiac disease, *each*.
So it feels like too many, and not that many at once.
