yes, I know how it works, unfortunately. And I agree with you in principle, however EU leaves a lot of power to the countries, unlike what ID and friends keep on saying.
I also mentioned that you do have a choice today. That you don't want to switch to German citizenship is your choice (totally understandable). But it's still your choice. It would be really bad if you as a EU citizen could not vote AT all in another EU country.
