In 1910, it would buy a cup of coffee.
In 1920, a newspaper.
Into the 70s a penny could still buy a candy.
Now they’re being deprecated because 1 cent in USD is functionally worthless.
This in spite of technological innovations where we should be able to price things in increasingly smaller units with precision.
That no-one seems to be questioning this shows how stuck most people are in the water they swim in.
