here's what's going to happen. a fully autonomous car will have to drive too slow for most americans. their heads will explode if they have to ride in a car that drives at a safe speed. so in order to sell cars, tesla will just make it so the software is actually unsafe. they will knowingly have people killed and injured with their cars because it's better for the bottom line.
it's what ford did when they realized that the pinto was going to explode when rearended. it was cheaper to pay the victims than to stop production and fix the error. it probably ended up costing them more money, but ford is still a company making shit tons of money. so in the end, killing those people didn't really matter to ford.
the same will likely be the case for tesla. the car industry has made car deaths to be a more acceptable form of homicide. it's the cost of freedom, they say, but it's really that they're killing people for money.
