The most chilling part of this is the guards treating the detainees so appallingly. Maybe they were told too to act as a deterrent, but they seemed to carry out these orders with relish. If they weren’t told too, it shows them up as vicious, bigoted thugs.
I would like to be persuaded that American people aren’t racist, bigoted people bent on persecuting and punishing minorities. I would like to be, but the evidence is building that there’s something rotten at the country’s heart.
