I found this grass growing in a hothouse a couple of weeks ago, but this isn't just any old grass - these are rice plants.
First cultivated around 10,000 years ago, rice is the staple food of over half of the world's population. Around 800 million tons of it are grown annually, but yields are predicted to fall by about 20% for each 1°C rise in global mean temperature.
I see trouble ahead...
