I think a huge and underappreciated part of this is how parasitic "AI" and related things are on the gossamer web of international trade and industry
imagine if you, personally, had your heart ripped out and were reliant on an ECMO machine powered by a thousand people squeezing those little BP cuff inflation bulb doohickeys in unison
the thing is, you no longer have a heart - you're not growing one back, so your existence is now intimately tied into the ability and willingness of some random thousand people to stand there and squeeze the bulb in time to "Stayin' Alive" on endless loop
they can go get food, they can go on-and-off shift, they can walk around, whatever; you are stuck there, and if they don't pump, and correctly, you die
this is the position that AIs are in, basically: if industrial civilization fails, or even suffers "too much" of a recession, those digital brains go kaput
