The Magna Carta was a law enacted in England in the year 1215. The clause below, still in effect after 800 years, has been a pillar of law in the Western World. Magna Carta was also a massive inspiration during the formation of the Constitution and Bill of rights of the United States.
Magna Carta:
“No free man shall be seized, imprisoned, dispossessed, outlawed, exiled or ruined in any way, nor in any way proceeded against, except by the lawful judgement of his peers and the law of the land."
5th Amendment to the United States Constitution:
"No person shall be ... deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law"
With the kidnapping and rapid unlawful deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the State of Maryland by ICE, in direct violation of a 2019 order from a federal immigration judge allowing him to stay in the USA, the fundamental right of Due Process that has been a bedrock of law in the western world for almost 1000 years has been violated. This right protects all of us, regardless of citizenship status, and with this action it is in effect obsolete law in the United States.
This issue has now ballooned into a Constitutional crisis as the executive branch is in open defiance of the Supreme Court of the United States, ignoring their unanimous 9-0 decision that Kilmar Garcia was wrongfully deported and should be returned.
The separation of powers and checks and balances are there to ensure we don't devolve into a dictatorship. If things continue as they are, nobody is safe.
The rule of law is broken.
The federal government of the United States of America is now being run like a Mafia with Don Trump at the helm.
We now live in a very different world.
