The Discourse around LLM corpora is primed to turn people into raving copyright fundamentalists, because state-sponsored monopolies seem to be the only way to actually stop the companies who are running these things from raiding public creativity for profit.
But copyright sucks. It's, well, a state-sponsored monopoly. Its job, structurally, is to make the money printer go brr, in the policy hope that the promise of a money printer will encourage more people to make creative works.
